7 Steps to a Beautiful Radiant Face

We all know by now, to achieve beautiful skin, we need a skin regime. Cleanse, tone and moisturize. Sometimes we use a facial mask, or exfoliaters to bring out the best in our skin.

BUT, there is also something very important that we need to do but we always tend to neglect. What is it?

MASSAGE of course. This facial massage is helpful in promoting blood circulation, draining toxins from the face and stimulating the production of collagen under your skin. Bonus is, it also helps to stimulate some acupressure points along the face. Here is a step by step guide for a more beautiful face:

1) Gently pinch your eyebrows between your thumb and your index fingers. Pinch your eyebrows along from the beginning of your brow till the end. Do it for about 30 times or more if you like. This helps to elevate stress at your eye areas.

2) Apply some pressure by pressing along the entire eyebrow with your index fingers. Repeat this for about 30 times. Steps 1 and 2 helps to reduce dark eye circles too.

3) Lightly pinch the little area between your eyes. Don't press too hard or you will have a stubborn red mark there. The skin here is very sensitive to the touch. This helps to destress tired eyes especially. You can repeat it for about 10-15 times.

4) Make little circular motions on your temples lightly. Let the circular motions be directed outwards, moving from the insides of your temples which are nearest to the eyes towards your hairline each time. Repeat the circular motions for about 30 times to relief stress, the blues and headaches.

5) Slightly part your mouth like you're saying 'O' then press lightly on the cheeks. Repeat this for 30 times and this helps to stimulate collagen production to keep cheeks uplifted and firm.

6) From the sides of the nose, sweep the face in outward strokes with your fingers. Repeat this for about 30 times too. Make the strokes upwards from the sides of your nose towards the cheekbones gently and dont overpull the skin. This helps to drain toxins and water retention. Also, it helps to elevate sinus blockage. For further sinus relief, lightly rub the areas at the sides of the nose.

7) Run your fingers by applying slight pressure along your entire jawline, starting from your chin till your ears. Repeat for about 30 times. This helps to release stress along the jawline. We are usually unaware of how much tension we apply to the jawline as sometimes we tend to clench our teeth unknowingly.

Natural Hair Growth Tips - Herbs And Foods That Stop Hair Loss

In 2009, America spent about 176 million dollars on hair loss products and very often, much of that money spent did not see the desired results. While there are endless hair enhancement options that tout to be effective, you should be careful about deceptive advertisements and fancy claims that do not honour with results. And while prescriptions that promote hair growth abound, the side effects can be more detrimental than ever. Here are a range of tested and proven natural hair growth tips which include herbs and foods that stop hair loss.

If you have been plagued by the endless frustrations of hair fall, receding hair-line, fast thinning hair and pattern baldness, you are not alone. 35 million men and 21 million women in USA are suffering from some form of hair loss. Key natural hair growth tips must include a holistic regimen that should always include the right amount of exercise, sufficient rest and sleep.

Did you know that your diet has a lot to do with the severity of your hair fall? In fact, your intake of the relevant supplements and foods that stop hair loss has everything to do with alleviating your frustrations and embarrassment. Yes, to some people it is beyond reality that something as simple as the food you eat can literally re-grow your crowning glory and revive your self-esteem.
The best part of having food for hair growth is that they are common and widely available in at your friendly neighborhood grocery or supermarket. And you can easily incorporate into your normal daily meals.

The idea of infusing supplements into your daily diet is an age-old tradition that not many of us even realise. Well, maybe not if you are a nutritionist. We have been taking fish, eggs, greens, liver, whole grain bread, nuts, walnuts, poultry, seeds, onions, legumes and more, without knowing that these are the foods that stop hair loss as they are rich in supplements and nutrients like protein, iron, sulphur, vitamin B and E as well as essential fatty acids.

Olive, coconut as well as canola oils make great hair growth recipes for both application and consumption. Apply the oils on your scalp for better blood circulation two times a day.
Kelp hair growth diet treatment has recently taken over the limelight at the hair loss scene. Kelp essentially contains a varied number of seaweed including wakame, and arame of Japan origin to Irish dillisk. This herbal form of treatment diet comes mostly in dried or processed form and infusing the seaweed diet into your soups and salads has become more common nowadays. They present the body with an excellent form of vitamin and minerals that directly replenish deficiencies. However, if you have thyroid disorder, it is important that you consult your personal physician as over ingesting kelp gives rise high iodine levels in the body which can aggravate or induce thyroid disorder. Whenever in doubt, before your start your kelp hair growth diet, check it out your doctor. And remember to consume in moderation.

It is important to note that hair loss in men and women are due to different triggers. In some cases, female hair loss could be induced by gastrointestinal tract ailments and by taking low-fat yogurt with active acidophilus, you can kill two birds with one stone, strengthening the intestinal tract thereby enhancing hair health. Men with hair loss, are closely tied to high testosterone levels and would get much more out of a low-fat dietary menu instead. Consuming less fat and meat would directly lower hormone levels and hence slowing the hair loss in the process.

Whether you are optimizing natural hair growth tips like kelp hair growth diet or taking foods that stop hair loss, always remember to consume in modern. Over indulgence on food for hair growth can give rise to other medical side effects that you might not wish to have.

How to Make Your Own Coconut Milk

After paying $5 a gallon for coconut milk at the grocery store, I decided to make some on my own. To do this you will need a Champion juicer, a raw coconut and some water. Other juicers may work but I haven't tried them. My grocery sells coconuts for about 99 cents each. Each coconut will make about 24 ounces of coconut milk. You can also use a blender to grind up the meat and strain it through cheese cloth.

Coconut milk contains the natural enzymes and oil from the coconut. This milk is high in lauric acid. Lauric acid is antimicrobial, antiviral and is an excellent antioxidant.

Coconuts are easy to crack open. I use a rolling pin and hit it on the end where the eyes are. You will probably have to hit it more than once. Put the coconut over a bowl and catch the water as it comes out. You can mix this with the milk later on.

The outer shell should come off in pieces. Hit the coconut with the rolling pin if the shell is difficult to remove. Peel off the shell completely and cut or break the coconut into inch size pieces. I have also had to use a spoon to dig under the meat to remove it.

Turn on the Champion or whatever juicer you are using and put the coconut pieces into the reservoir and push them through using the push stick. After you get a couple of pieces masticated in the juicer pour some of the coconut water through. This should produce a white milk in the juice bowl. Continue to alternately insert coconut and pour water. The masticated meat should be ejected from the juicer after a few minutes. After milking about 1/2 a coconut you may have to clean the meat out of the juicer and start again. This ground coconut can be used in other dishes just like shredded coconut.

That is about it. Store the coconut milk in the refrigerator and consume within a week. It is good mixed with juice, protein powder or plain. The coconut oil and pulp will separate so you will have to shake the milk up. This is why I store it in a jar with a lid.

Use the coconut milk as a replacement for regular milk. Use it on your cereal or just drink it plain. It is delicious and good for you. Be sure to use it in a week or two.

Apples Good For A Healthy Weight Loss

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. We have all heard this a million times in our lives, but for some reason we would rather grab a double stuffed OREO when we feel like a snack. Would we be more inclined to eat this all-natural food if the saying was An Apple A Day Keeps The Fat Away? I think we would. We are a nation that puts quick weight loss fixes at the top of our priorities instead of focusing on our overall health.

Living a healthy lifestyle is essential for not only losing weight, but maintaining an ideal weight so you do not need to trying fad diets. Apples have a variety of advantages that will keep us living healthy and fat free. Ever wonder why there are so many varieties of apples in the grocery store? It is because they are a perfect addition to your weight-loss plan and well-being for a number of reasons, and our earth wants us to be reminded of it.

Weight Loss Tips #1: Apples are Low In Calories And Fat

Calories are calories, whether they are from healthy fruits and vegetables or a plate of fettucini alfredo. Since you lose weight when you burn off more calories than you consume, it is best to eat foods that will make you feel full without the calories. That is why an apple as a snack will not hurt your weight loss efforts like so many fat-free snack foods that are on the market. These foods contain lots of calories even though they are low in fat. Apples do not, thus killing two birds with one stone.

Weight Loss Tips #2: Apples Contain Carbohydrates

Yes, you read that right. Contrary to popular belief, carbohydrates are not detrimental to weight loss. I am not recommending you go out and eat a box of Cheez-Its to get carbohydrates, however. Unlike packaged snack foods, apples will not trigger you to eat more than you need. Carbohydrates will give you lots of energy, and the more active you are the more calories you will burn. Since you want the fuel without preservatives and other artificial ingredients, apples are perfect.

Weight Loss Tips #3: Apples Are A Good Source Of Fiber, Vitamins And Minerals

The healthier you are, the easier it is to lose weight. Your body can perform miracles when you provide it with proper nutrition. Fiber is a good way to curb your appetite, so eating an apple before a big meal will eliminate your desire to eat too much. Even though it's not bursting with nutrients like some of the other fruits, apples are a good source of vitamin C, which in a round about way help prevent heart disease and the formation of some cancers.

Weight Loss Tips #4: Apples Have A High Water Content
When a person is trying to lose weight, it is always best to focus on a diet of water-rich foods. Water is an extremely important part of weight loss, but not everyone likes to drink their share of it or they forget to. Eating water-rich foods like apples and other fruits will at least solve part of the problem if you have trouble remembering to drink enough liquids. Not only does water make you feel more full, but it does so without giving your body more calories.

Weight Loss Tips #5: Apples Detoxifying The Body

Apples contain enzymes that help your body digest food more efficiently. When your body is able to get rid of toxins, it becomes a healthier host for proper nutrition to do its magic. Apples are much cheaper than any detox program you will ever find, but you must remember that one apple is not going to make much of a difference. You need to make a habit of eating apples on a weekly basis if not daily, along with other foods that accelerate weight loss and promote good health.

Since apples are low in calories and fat, and contain carbohydrates as well as fiber, vitamins and minerals, it is no wonder they can help you lose weight in different ways. Did I forget to mention that the fiber from apples helps you feel full longer because it expands in your stomach? Forgetting that probably has something to do with the fact that apples have even more advantages than our minds can remember.

The most important part of losing weight and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is developing the mindset to support good habits like eating an apple instead of a Hershey bar. You have to be the kind of person who really believes that eating an apple will help you in all of these positive ways, and that the junk foods you are giving up as a consequence really are bad for you. Believing leads to action and action gets results. The kind of results you need for any healthy weight loss program all boils down to your beliefs.

The Relationship Between Papaya and Weight Loss

It is always stressed that eating healthy is the way to have a good diet. The question though is what are the fresh fruits and vegetables that should be eaten by those who want to go to a diet. Actually, there has been a clamor going around that papaya and weight loss have a special relationship. There are also studies that suggest that same is true and that there is a significant correlation between eating papaya and losing weight. Despite the nutritional benefits of papaya, not too many are aware of its benefits when it comes to weight loss solutions.

Papaya is a fruit that has a musky taste and it sometimes tastes bit like pineapples and peaches. The papaya has a soft texture and has a yellow-orange flesh. If the papaya not yet ripe, its skin is green. Once ripe, the skin is soft and yellow-orange in color and once you open the papaya, its flesh is colored amber or orange. The good thing about this fruit is that it is very easy to prepare. You can just simply slice the whole papaya and then scoop the flesh. Many dietitians have papaya and weight loss program in their diet programs.

Perhaps you are wondering by now why Papaya and weight loss are linked together because it is source of vitamin A and C. Aside from those vitamins, the papaya is a source of fiber and potassium. These nutrients help the cardiovascular system and protect the colon from cancer. This fruit is cholesterol free, fat free and is very low in calories. Papaya is said to contain papain which is also used for tenderizing meat. Some claim that papain breaks down protein. Some people exaggerate this characteristic of papain and claim that it increases metabolism and digestion. There are also those who say that it is not an exaggeration but a truth. Nonetheless there are living proofs to the fact that papaya and weight loss are greatly correlated.

Aside from these amazing properties, the papaya seeds are used to treat stomachache and fungal infections. There are also number of skin diseases that can be treated by papaya and its content. The fruit is also used for skin sores while roots are analgesics. Papaya is a fruit that will keep you healthy. Because of its low calories and high fibers, it makes a perfect fruit to compliment a diet especially for those who want to lose weight.

Nevertheless, do not easily believe that it can miraculously cure your weight problems. Just like any weight loss regimen, it would not work unless you also impose discipline on your self and try to keep track of your diet. Also, try mixing the papaya with other fruits and vegetables in your diet.

9 Ways to Help Your Psoriasis

Psoriasis is defined as a chronic yet non-contagious skin disorder characterized by thickened reddish patches on the skin. This is a recurring condition and is also characterized by silvery white scales which may vary in severity and areas of affected body parts. The genital areas, scalp and nails can be affected.

A lot of patients suffering from psoriasis experience intense emotional struggles while they fight in order to control the disorder. These emotional struggles can sometimes lead to the occurrence of remissions and flare ups all year round. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for psoriasis but it is certainly possible to control and lessen the condition. Optimal control of this disease is through observing healthy lifestyle and proper skin care management. Here are 9 tips to help people cope and manage psoriasis:

Tip#1: Maintain a healthy lifestyle. When you are weak and tired, psoriasis flare ups tend to occur most often. A balanced diet can help in lowering the occurrence of remissions as well. Reduction of alcohol and red meats can go a long way in helping the balance in skin integrity. The increase in water intake and at least 7-8hours of sleep in a day can help keep the body in a healthier state. Moderate exercise around 3-4 times in a week can help as well. Medications have a 30% role in managing psoriasis and the remaining 70% is lifestyle adjustments and modifications.

Tip#2: Smoking cessation is very important. Research have shown that pustular psoriasis of the soles and the palms is greatly aggravated by smoking. Lesions also clear up faster upon quitting smoking. The severity of psoriasis can be linked to smoking, thus it is imperative that patients should quit smoking in order to lessen the severity and occurrence of the dreaded signs and symptoms of psoriasis.

Tip#3: Drink less alcohol. Psoriasis is triggered by intake of alcohol. Dermatologists have reported that even a small quantity of alcohol can cause a flare up of psoriasis in some sufferers.

Tip#4: Stress management is essential in controlling psoriasis. Remissions and exacerbations of all types of psoriasis are strongly related to the stress level of the patient. Psoriasis itself can be considered as a lifestyle disease which when combined with genetic factors can occur without warning. Hormones play a significant role in the development of psoriasis especially when a person is in a high level of stress. Stress management, biofeedback exercises and progressive relaxation as well as yoga can help in lowering the probability of remissions in psoriatic patients. The National Psoriasis Foundation has emphasized that when stress reduction is combined with the proper medical treatment, psoriasis can be controlled.

Tip #5: Be careful in taking medications which can aggravate psoriasis. There are certain types of medications which can precipitate and aggravate the occurrence of psoriasis. Drugs which can trigger psoriasis may include:

    Anti-malarial drugs like chloroquine
Beta-blockers which are a type of medication used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure)
Corticosteroids can cause sudden episodes of flare ups
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like indomethacin can worsen psoriasis
Lithium which is a mood stabilizer (antipsychotic drug) can cause remissions and intensify the signs and symptoms of psoriasis

Tip#6: Maintain good skin integrity by avoiding trauma to the lesions. If the skin will breakdown it can cause infection. Research said that 50% of people suffering from psoriasis experience the "Koebner phenomenon" when there is the development of skin lesions on the site of injury. Avoid scrubbing, scratching of the scales from the lesion since it can worsen the disease.

Tip#7: Any form of infection in the body should be treated promptly. Research studies have shown that the occurrence of infection can greatly trigger psoriasis. Streptococcal infections, candidal infection and HIV infection can cause the outbreak of various types of psoriasis. Dental caries, sinusitis, tonsillitis, gall bladder infection and urinary bladder infection etc can cause the development of psoriasis among patients afflicted with this condition. Treat any disease before it worsens. Consult a dermatologist at the earliest sign of a psoriatic break out. In this way, you can effectively manage the itchiness and appearance of lesions in the body.

Tip #8: Proper skin care routines should be followed as a priority. Patients suffering from psoriasis should always keep their skin moist and supple. Dryness of the skin should be avoided in order to decrease the level and occurrence of itching, flaking and scaling of the skin. Use emollients and moisturizers to avoid dryness. Sunscreens should be used 15 to 20 minutes before going outdoors and make sure you wear protective clothing from the sun. This is due to the fact that intense sun can trigger an attack.

Tip#9: Learn how to live with your condition. Psoriasis is beyond cure but it can be managed properly. There are a myriad of treatment options on the care and management of this skin disorder. Do all you can to maintain a healthy mind and body to decrease the severity of psoriasis.

10 Best Slimming Vegetables For Weight Loss

Hopefully I'm not fooling you with the "slimming" part of the title of this article as most vegetables are by far better for us than any other food group in terms of weight gain/loss. The facts are that vegetables are the very next food group below protein for weight loss surgery patients or for that matter, anyone who wants to lose weight. Not only are most of them low in calories, they are also full of nutrients, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins.

Before we get to the Top 10 list of veggies, we need to talk a bit about preparing and cooking vegetables so that we get the most out of their benefits.

Fresh vegetables is always the way to go. Frozen can work as a good 2nd choice, but forget canned vegetables. There's not much left of all the great nutrients in vegetables after the canning process.

In preparing vegetables, always make sure your thoroughly wash them. It's estimated that as many as 25 to 30 people touch our fruit and vegetables before we buy them in our super market. That's form the person in the field who picked them - to the 10 people who dug through them in the bin at the supermarket before you purchased them. Have you ever watched people picking through the vegetables at your supermarket? Who buys those vegetables that the person before you looked at and put back? You do - That's who! ALWAYS wash every vegetable you eat.

The best way to cook vegetable is to steam, bake or eat them raw. Using these 3 methods retains all the nutrients in the vegetables. If you boil them, the majority of the nutrients are leached from the food. It's OK if you're making soup, but if you throw those juices away after boiling vegetables, you my as well have save yourself the time preparing the vegetable, because you won't get any of the valuable nutrients from them.

OK, so here's my list of the Top 10 Vegetables for Weight Loss or WLS Post-ops:

1. Any/All Green leafy vegetables - this includes ALL Lettuces, Spinach, Kale etc.

2. Cucumbers

3. All Sweet Bell Peppers (Any colour)

4. Tomatoes ( I know, they're a fruit - but you won't find them on my fruit list, so they have to go here)

5. Carrots

6. Green Peas

7. Yams

8. Squash

9. Sweet potatoes

10. Garlic and Onions

Now you might wonder why Broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels Sprouts aren't on the list? The facts are, these 3 veggies are wonderfully full of vitamins, minerals, etc - unfortunately they're also fairly gassy. Many Post-op gastric by-pass people may find they can't tolerate these 3 veggies. The trick is to try them and see. If you can tolerate them, then you get to add them to your list.

Date - A Wonder Fruit of Arabia

Dates are the fruits of the date palm tree which is a food of high nutritional value. They are used abundantly in the month of Ramadan when Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. The sweetness of the date takes the edge off hunger and this is another reason why fasts are opened with dates. This prevents a person from overeating after he has opened his fast.

Dates contain calcium, sulphur, iron, potassium, phosphorus, manganese, copper, magnesium, volatile oils, Vitamin-B6, folic acid, Potassium, Iron and Magnesium, proteins, sugars, vitamins and are rich in natural fibers which contribute to a healthy body and mind.

Dates provides natural sugar in the form of glucose and fructose which is ready for immediate absorption and, is infinitely far superior to cane-sugar.

Eating dates has great benefits which can be illustrated as follows:
Prevents Cancer: Dates are very nutritious and contain natural fibres. Modern medicine has shown that they are effective in preventing abdominal cancer. In general Bedouin Arabs, who eat them on a regular basis, show an extremely low incidence rate of cancer.

Weak heart: Dates are an excellent remedy for weak heart. Dates soaked overnight should be taken twice a week which strengthens the heart.
Bedouin Arabs who regularly consume dates have shown an extremely low rate of heart disease.

Treatment for Obesity: The wide variety of nutritious elements in dates makes it hunger-resistive! So treatment by eating few dates when feeling hungry helps reduce hunger and be filled. These dates will provide the body with the necessary sugar and stimulate the intestine which reduce hunger greatly, and eventually, reduce food consumption.

Eases child-birth: Eating dates eases the pain of childbirth. Scientifically they are known to contain hormones which strengthen the uterus, help produce milk for nursing mothers and also prevent blood loss after childbirth. (The ripe fruit contains a substance that urges uterine spasms and increases contractions especially in the time of delivery. This substance resembles 'oxytocin' that is secreted by pituitary gland, which encourages contractions of the uterus. Dates contain some stimulants which strengthen the muscles of the uterus in the last months of pregnancy. This helps the dilation of the uterus at the time of delivery and reduces post-natal bleeding).

Ideal for breast-feeding mothers: Dieticians consider dates the best food for breast-feeding mothers. This is because dates contain elements that assist in alleviating depression and enrich the breast milk with the nutrients needed to make the child healthy and resistant to disease.

Bones: Calcium is important for strong bones so this is an additional benefit that dates provide. As dates are rich in calcium, they contribute to healthy bones. For this reason it is recommended that children and older adults, especially women, eat plenty of dates to strengthen their bones.

Modern science has also proved the effectiveness of dates, in preventing diseases of the respiratory system.

Intestinal Disturbances: Eating dates in the morning on an empty stomach kills intestinal worms and other parasites, for dates have an antidotal potency which restrains their growth. According to Metchnikoff, a great Russian scientist, liberal use of dates keeps in check the growth of pathological organisms and helps to establish a colony of friendly bacteria in the intestines.

Improves Eye sight: Dates are also important in maintaining good vision and are effective in guarding against night-blindness.

Cures constipation: Dates are also highly beneficial in the treatment of constipation as the roughage provided by it stimulates sluggish bowels. They should be immersed in water at night and taken after making them into fine syrup the next morning to secure laxative effect.

Remedy for Sexual Debility: Date syrup can be used as a treatment for weak heart. It can also be use for the treatment of sexual weakness. When it's mixed with milk and honey, dates can be used as a tonic for the treatment of sexual disturbances for both sexes. And such syrup strengthens the body and raises its energy levels. The elderly would benefit from this syrup too. It improves their stamina and purges their bodies from the toxins that have accumulated in their cells along the years.

Remedy for Liver and Inflammations: Dates remedy Lever and purge it from toxins, Breaking the fast with dates, is one of the most magnificent of natural remedies for the maintenance and purging the Lever from accumulated toxins. And also drinking dates juice could be used in the treatment of sore throat, various types of fever, rhinorrhia and common cold.

Remedy for Intoxication: Dates are an excellent remedy for alcoholic intoxication. In such a case, drinking water in which fresh dates have been rubbed or soaked will bring quick relief

Children's Disease: Dates tied to a wrist of the baby and allowed to be sucked during teething period hardens the gums and also prevents other complaints like restlessness and diarrhea.

In short sentence, one date satisfies the minimum requirements of a balanced and healthy diet - so cultivating a healthy habit of eating dates miraculously preserves our health and attains longevity.

Middle Age Weight Gain and How to Avoid It!

Many women in their youth, teens, 20's and even 30's, will have no problem managing their weight or losing excess pounds when they make an effort to do so. It's around middle age when all of a sudden it seems that their old tactics for weight loss or weight management no longer work, and worse, they seem to be gaining weight faster than ever. In my coaching practice, this is when I most often here the phrase, "It all feels so out of control!!"

I have studied healthy weight management for 15 years and have counseled hundreds of women on healthy weight management. One thing I know for sure is in this industry, nothing stays the same and there are a lot of mixed messages.

Low fat, low carb, lifestyle change, weight watchers, Jenny Craig, margarine is good for you, margarine is bad for you, fitness is the key, set points, food points, blah, blah, blah.

I have followed it all, made my own conclusions that I have determined from my education and experience were the right conclusions, and that have worked for me personally to maintain my weight for 21 years.

Then I hit midlife. All of a sudden, my body started expanding! My clothes began to get tight and I went up a size. I was still doing all the same things I've always done, so what was happening to me?

I searched for answers. I part of me started to just accept the weight gain as a natural component of getting older, but another part of me resisted this kind of thinking. There had to be another explanation for why I was gaining weight, other than my changing middle age metabolism.

What I found from my search was shocking. All the time, in my 20's 30's and 40's, I followed what I thought was a healthy way of eating according to medical science, the American Heart Association and the the popular medical journals. I ate a diet that consisted of mostly carbs, fruits, vegetables, and grains, about 20-30% of the "good" fats, and about 20-30% lean proteins. I didn't deprive myself of my favorite foods, I just ate them in moderation. I also had a few bad habits, but felt my good habits out weighed them. I drank caffeinated coffee and had developed the habit of having a glass of wine or two with my dinner every evening.

What I learned is that exact diet has done a lot of damage to me physically over all those years of trying to be so "good"!! Even though it seemed to be working, damage was being done on a cellular level from my over consumption of carbs and stimulants (caffeine and alcohol) and it was only a matter time that this imbalance would make it self known with sudden weight gain and intense menopausal symptoms. So, actually, I can thank menopause for this discovery and the start of reversing the damage!

Here are some of the things I learned:

1. Eating a low fat diet can make you fat!

o Eating dietary fat is essential for the regeneration of healthy tissues, hormone production, a healthy immune system and for maintaining ideal body composition.

o A low fat diet, when combined with a high carbohydrate intake leads to insulin resistance and accelerated metabolic aging.

o Fats that you eat do not turn into fat on your body because fat cannot be stored without the presence of insulin because insulin is the key to opening up the doors to store fat in fat cells. No matter how much fat you eat, it does not stimulate the pancreas to secrete insulin! Only too many refined carbs can do that!

o When you are constantly watching your fat intake, you naturally fill in with foods that contain carbohydrates. When you take in mostly carbs, you have high levels of blood sugar being delivered to your liver. All your liver knows is it needs to protect your brain from getting too much sugar, so when it is done distributing the sugar where it is needed for energy, the rest gets stored as fat.

2. You can eat as much as you want without worrying about weight gain.

o Your body can and will regulate the amounts of fat and protein you digest, but it cannot regulate the amount of carbs you consume. When you eat too much sugar (all carbs turn into sugar in the body), your body over produces insulin which leads to plaguing of the arteries, heart disease, and in diabetes.

3. Butter is good for you. Ha!

o Eating saturated fats like butter increases the proportion of HDL's in the bloodstream. This is good because HDL's take cholesterol back to the liver and keep your arteries clean.

o The cells of the body cannot recognize or metabolize "damaged" fats. Damaged fats include processed fats, polyunsaturated fats used for cooking, deep fried foods, hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils (margarines), and charred fats on meats.

4. Not all carbs are bad, but not all "whole grains" are good.

o Sounds confusing, but really it's not. Any carbs in excess raises insulin levels. The best carbs to eat are whole grains, legumes, starchy and non-starchy vegetables and fruit. Avoid man-made carbs, including whole wheat processed breads. Fresh baked bread is preferable because it contains no additives, (but not very convenient, so eat whole grain breads from the bakery.)

o Always eat any carbs along with fat or protein to slow down the digestion of the carbs into sugar and keep the levels of insulin balanced.

5. Balance is the key.

o This is not a high protein, low carb program. That way of eating causes excessive ketones in the blood. This is extremely dangerous because your body is breaking down healthy tissue and causing imbalances in the body.

o Fast and healthy are not synonymous when it comes to losing body fat. Losing body fat in a healthy way means your metabolism is working to use your stored fat as energy. To lose body fat, you need to heal your metabolism so it becomes more efficient at using fat for fuel.

o The fact is you must eat to become healthy and achieve your ideal body composition. And it takes time. Optimum health is not about losing weight. It's about balance and shifting your focus away from numbers on the scale or measuring foods to the things that really matter-improved mood, more energy, a healthier, more efficient metabolism and a lifetime of all the above!

o Eating a variety of foods, never skipping meals, and eating "real" foods, is the best way to achieve balance.

o Eat all the good fats, proteins, non-starchy vegetables your body needs and eat enough whole grain, non-processed carbs according to your current level of activity. More active people need more carbs.

Since making an effort to include more real fats, better carbs, and non-processed fresh and organic foods into my diet, I have noticed my energy and moods improve, my weight has stabilized and gone back down some, and I am feeling generally healthier and just better mentally knowing I am healing the damage done from years of eating the wrong "healthy" foods.

5 of the Best Weight Loss Tips For Long-Term Success

If you've decided that you need to lose weight, it is important to devise a plan that you will follow long-term. Long-term weight loss should not be a plan that you follow a few months, then you go back to eating the same way that got you overweight in the first place! It is important to your long-term success that you make permanent lifestyle changes in both your diet and daily exercise. Here are 5 of the best weight loss tips to help you achieve your goals:

1. Always eat breakfast.

How many times did your hear your mother say this is the most important meal of the day? She was right! By ensuring that you have a balanced and nutritious breakfast each morning you are helping to give your metabolism a kick start. Not only will you no longer be tempted by sugary snacks half way through the morning but the calories you consume will burn off a lot faster.

2. Don't skip meals.

As long as you eat your meals at regular intervals then your metabolism will improve even more. On top of that, you won't be as tempted to eat unhealthy snacks because you are hungry. Many health professionals now recommend eating 5-6 smaller meals a day. Eating every couple of hours will keep you from ever feeling hungry, will aid your digestion, and will keep your metabolism working at top speed.

3. Take your time.

Actually sit down for your meals, take your time, and savor each mouthful. Unlike our ancestors, most people in the Western world are eating far too much and eating it far too quickly. By slowing down the rate at which you eat your food you will give your body time to signal you that it is full. You will find that this often happens with smaller portions if you take the time to eat slowly and chew thoroughly.

4. Take control of your portion sizes.

It is important that with any meal the amount of food on your plate should be no larger than your two fists. So if you go out to a restaurant for a meal either order smaller portions, if possible, or take half your food home for another meal. Restaurants are notorious for serving portion sizes that are much too large for the average adult!

5. Get Active.
A great way of getting active without having to go to the gym each day is just by changing your daily routine. For example, if you go to work on the bus then get off a couple of stops earlier and walk the rest of the way. If you work in an office that has elevators, then why not use the stairs a few times a day? It is fairly simple to add more walking to your life, and the benefits are many.

These ideas are very simple, but they are some of the best weight loss tips you'll find. And you'll find them even easier to implement!

Herbal Remedies for Erectile Dysfunction

Long term smoking, high alcohol consumption and the use of recreational drugs all contribute to developing E.D. Obesity and lack of regular exercise are also factors that can lead E.D. So if you think that you may have E.D the first thing is to cut out smoking and recreational drugs, cut down on alcohol consumption and start regular exercise. Anxiety and stress can also lead to men developing E.D.

Certain prescribed medications have side effects that can also cause E.D. There are also certain illnesses such as diabetes and high blood pressure that can cause E.D. If you have diabetes or are on prescribed medication, please contact your G.P to discuss the natural remedies that are safe for you to take. It is also important to have your cardiac system checked before taking any herbal remedies for E.D.

The following Herbal remedies can be taken for Erectile Dysfunction:

Damiana. This herbal remedy is native to Mexico and other parts of Central America. It has been associated with improved sexual function in both men and women. This remedy works by improving blood circulation and stimulating the nervous system. Damiana should be taken for a few weeks before its beneficial action is seen. This natural remedy is often combined with Muira Puama to improve the stability of erections during intercourse. Damiana is available as a tincture, tea, tablet or capsule. If you have diabetes, you should not take this herb as it can also lower blood sugar levels. A common side effect of Damiana is mild indigestion.

Muira Puama. This natural remedy originates from the Amazon rain forest. The herbal tincture is made from the tree, using the bark, root, flowers and fruit. Muira Puama has been used as an aphrodisiac historically. It is also used to treat nervous exhaustion and mild depression. Studies have found that this herb has helped to restore sex drive and erectile function. Muira Puama has also been included in certain formulations to treat male pattern baldness. There are currently no known drug interactions with Muiral Puama. It is usually available in the form of a tincture or capsule.

Catuaba is another herbal remedy that originates from the Brazilian rain forest. This natural herbal remedy has been found to strengthen erections. Catuaba is one of the most commonly used natural aphrodisiacs in Brazil. This herb has also been used as a tonic for the nervous system, to improve libido, and to improve memory. Catuaba is often combined with Muira Puama in the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction. It is available as a tincture or capsule. There are currently no known drug interactions with this herb, but it is important to check with your GP or pharmacist if you are taking any prescribed medication.

Epimedium. This herbal remedy is also known as Goat Wort and Horny Goat Weed and is a traditionally used Chinese herb for impotence. Epimedium works by dilating capillaries and other blood vessels, thereby improving blood flow to the sexual organs. It stimulates sexual activity in both men and women. In men, Epimedium improves bloodflow to the penis and relaxes the smooth muscle tissue. This natural remedy works by inhibiting the enzyme, Phosphodiesterases (PDE)- 5. This is also how the commonly used conventional medicines for E.D work. Epimedium is usually available as a tincture, powder, tablet or capsule. This herb should not be taken if you have high blood pressure. If you are taking prescribed medication, please consult with your G.P before taking this remedy.

The herbal remedy Tribulus Terrestris has recently been marked as a "mens" remedy by many well known health companies. This natural remedy has been marketed as a sport's supplement as well as improving sexual performance. It is believed that the active components of Tribulus work by increasing levels of testosterone, although these results have not been verified scientifically as yet. This remedy has been used successfully by many men for E.D and low libido. Tribulus is thought to increase the release of nitric oxide and increase blood flow to the penis.

Gingko Biloba is a commonly used herbal remedy. It generally works by dilating blood vessels and improving blood flow throughout the body. Gingko stimulates circulation and stops blood clotting. Gingko is used to treat a variety of conditions, ranging from tinnitus, improving memory through to E.D. Gingko contains compounds that cause the blood vessels to relax, which in the case of E.D results in an increased blood flow to the penis.

This herbal remedy should be used with medical supervision if you are taking Aspirin or Warfarin. Gingko has been shown to be particularly helpful in men who suffer with E.D as a result of being on antidepressant medication. Several studies have found that Gingko helped to reverse E.D after four to six weeks in men who were talking antidepressants such as fluoxetine and sertraline. This herb is generally available as a tincture or in tablet form.

Ginseng is a Chinese herbal medicine that has been used for over 2,000 years. This is another natural herbal remedy that has multiple uses. For example, Ginseng is used as a support remedy for the adrenal glands, for menopausal symptoms and E.D. Ginseng is also commonly used to increase energy and enhance physical performance. It is also referred to as an adaptogen. This means that it can increase the body's ability to deal with both mentally and physically stressful situations. This remedy works by acting as an aphrodisiac. Ginseng has been found to stimulate the area of the brain that is responsible for stimulating growth and healing of the sex organs. Studies have also found that Ginseng increases blood flow to the penis. This herbal remedy is found in many vitamin and mineral supplements, but amounts are normally too small to be effective. Ginseng is available as a tea, tincture and in tablet / capsule form.

Yohimbine is a herb that is native to Cameroon, Congo and parts of Central Africa. This herbal remedy is in many popular products that are sold for E.D. It has been used as a natural aphrodisiac for both sexes traditionally. Yohimbine was traditionally taken as a herbal tea for stimulating the sexual organs. Studies have found that Yohimbine stimulates nerve cells that regulate the flow of blood to the penis. This natural remedy has also been found to relieve E.D as a result of antidepressant medication such as fluoxetine and sertraline. If you are taking any prescribed medication, please consult your G.P before taking this herbal remedy. Yohimbine is best taken as a tincture.

Tips to Relieve Constipation in Toddlers

You need to treat the existing problem, that is clear the bowel of hard bowel motions, and then work on preventing the situation from recurring. Here are tips to relieve constipation in toddlers:

Massage to encourage movement through the large bowel. Have the child lie on their back and knees raised. With warm hands apply gentle pressure. Start from the lower right abdomen, work your way up towards the rib cage, then go across the stomach and down the left side. This is roughly the direction of the bowel and is helpful for stimulating the muscles to move hard stools.

Use juices to assist the intestines. The juices can include prune, apple and lemon. Spinach, watercress and dandelion leaves can be added to milder juices such as carrot, cucumber, beetroot and celery. These can be used in small amounts or diluted.

Increase the consumption of fibre rich foods. These include vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds and at the same time reduce the intake of sweets, chocolate, cakes, bread and white rice. Don't overdo the nuts though, as this can actually be constipating.

Eat meals at a regular time so the bowel is able to get into the habit of moving at certain times.

Increase the amount of water your child drinks. Children need to drink 6 to 8 glasses per day. Using milk, cordials and soft drinks can cause further problems so use filtered water and fresh natural juices as much as possible.

Encourage plenty of physical activity.

Increase the number of friendly bacteria in the bowel by the use of probiotics.

Remind children to go to the toilet.

Change the child's position when they go to the toilet. Place a small stool in front of the toilet so they are able to have their feet on it and this will raise their knees and change the angle of the hips. This will place the child in a position that requires less pushing.. Squatting is the ideal position for all humans when defecating.

Eat plenty of magnesium rich foods. Magnesium is important for muscle contraction and a deficiency in magnesium can cause constipation. Foods rich in magnesium include nuts, whole grains and beans.

Add some psyllium seeds to the diet. For children who are prone to constipation a daily supply of psyllium seeds can help. This is a fiber that helps regulate the activity of the bowel. When mixed with water or diluted juices they can create larger and softer stools. In order to work effectively the seeds need to absorb water so the child needs to drink plenty of fluids. The dosage for children from 3 years of age is 1 teaspoon twice daily added to diluted juice.

Talk to your child about any problems or stresses that they might have. Expressing concerns and receiving reassurance can greatly reduce stresses that may cause or contribute to constipation.

You will need to see a health professional if the constipation is difficult to relieve, if it is associated with a lot of pain or blood or if the child is doing all the right things and the problem is still there. Your health professional will consider the possibility of allergic problems and should explore this more thoroughly.

Protein helps to develop muscles and they are less likely to be turned into fat compared to carbohydrates. Muscles consume a lot of energy and will indirectly boost metabolism rate. Thus, protein will definitely help in fast weight loss.

Avoid Fatty Parts in Meals

I am sure that when you visit any fast food restaurants that serve chicken, especially fried ones, you will find some yellowish fat under the skin. If possible, clean them before you bite on it. I know its disgusting but there are some people who really love it.

Drink More Water

Water helps to clear toxins in our body. Although they are not directly linked to weight loss, drinking them will fill you up with energy with the toxins washed away so that you can run an extra mile on the treadmill.

Monitor Your Calories

Monitoring everything you eat and carrying the calorie card around is kind of paranoid. Let me ask you this. How bad is it that you want a change to your health and waist line? How fast do you want to see the results? Track everything you eat and stay within the recommended daily calories consumption amount.

Intense Cardio Workouts

Yes, everything should be fast if you want to lose weight rapidly. Plan out some sessions for intense cardio. You can be jogging on a treadmill, power aerobics, swimming or sprinting. Fast activities bring along joy and you will not be bored easily.

Suggestions For Finding a Natural Migraine Remedy

Modern medicine has provided the millions of migraine sufferers several medications to choose from to alleviate the symptoms of their medical condition. However, even with the availability of these drugs, some migrainers opt for the kind of treatment where side effects are not an issue but the results are just as helpful. In this case, their concern would be to find the best natural migraine remedy.

A natural remedy, which could also mean home or herbal remedy, is a type of medication prepared from plants. Because migraine is a disease affecting millions, it is not surprising that along with the development of pharmaceuticals to treat it, natural remedies have also been formulated for the same reason. Although not yet regarded in the same status as prescription or over-the-counter drugs, natural remedies are becoming more and more popular because they have been proven to be against with migraine.

Aromatherapy is popular as a natural migraine remedy and is effective in easing pain. It involves the use of scents to provide relief from pain. The scent to be used differs among people because individuals react to smells differently. However, there are popular ones that are oftentimes used for this purpose: peppermint, sandalwood, lavender and eucalyptus. Essential oils can be used for massage or mixed with candles and soap. For migraine, it is recommended that only the purest essential oils be utilized.

Next to aromatherapy, another known natural migraine remedy is exercise. This technique is not only recommended by those practicing alternative medicine but it is also made a part of migraine treatments provided by physicians. Exercise is beneficial because it helps the sufferer cope with pain when endorphins, natural painkillers produced by the body, are released during exercise. Some even do mild exercises during attacks to lessen the intensity of the pain. When one decides to start on an exercise regimen, it is important to take note that the body will react to abrupt changes. Hence, it is best to start slow.

Another alternative migraine remedy is massage. Massage provides both stimulation and relaxation. When doing a massage to relieve the symptoms of migraine, it is best to use the essential oils that provide aromatherapy. Doing so is like hitting two birds with one stone and double relief will be provided. The areas to be massaged include the shoulders and back of the neck since these are where most headache-inducing muscle contractions occur. Touching the base of the skull also proves beneficial. A recent discovery for the relief of migraine is a foot massage. The procedure can be done by the sufferer on himself or he can ask another person to do the massage for him.

Weight Loss Tips for Teenage Guys

Obesity is rapidly becoming a worldwide phenomenon. Most people accept that this epidemic is the fault of the poor western diet, both within western countries and now being exported to others through the media and advertising. This, coupled with the growing inactive lifestyle choices people are making is causing huge numbers of us to get fat. With the ever-present propensity of younger people to engage in humiliation and teasing being overweight is a more common problem for our teenagers than ever before.

The distractions available to teenagers is greater than it has ever been in the past and they tend more and more to centre around games consoles, PCs and television, all of which are highly inactive pastimes. The result of these sedentary existences and poor, fat and sugar laden diets is of course weight gain and eventually obesity.

It's upsetting for both parents and their children to suffer from teenage obesity. The overweight of all ages are all too often the subject of someone's ridicule and teasing, the sight of which is distasteful to all and more distressing for parents. So if someone wants to do something about a weight problem how can they achieve sensible teenage weight loss?

If you're a teenager tying to lose weight then the means to losing fat are the same as they are for anyone else, namely sufficient exercise and a balanced diet. As we've already mentioned there are so many distractions and hobbies that a teenager can have today that don't require much, if any physical exertion. But there are other reasons why many teenagers avoid exercising. For instance young girls are often concerned about developing too much muscle. This is really an unfounded concern because building muscle takes time and you can stop long before you see yourself getting too much muscle. Besides, it's relatively easy to tone up and look leaner than it is to really bulk up.

The second reason people and teens in particular avoid working out, especially in a gym environment, is that they often lack the confidence and are frightened of being mocked. Unfortunately, this can of course mean that they never tackle their weight problems, possibly feeling depressed and trapped in their situation. Ironically the best way to lift mood, overcome anxiety and gain confidence is to become fitter and healthier through exercise. By exercising the body releases endorphins which will naturally make you feel happier and generally good about yourself.

There are of course a lot of teenagers out there who don't need to lose weight but could still benefit from engaging in exercise. Regular workouts and training sessions can make everyone look better through a leaner body and clearer skin. I'm sure almost every teenager has skin worries for a period of time so exercise can really help clear those pores and a good diet will help too.

Teenagers thinking about following a weight loss program can find it more difficult than adults. Everyone finds a weight loss program challenging, especially at first and often teenagers may not have the confidence or perseverance to see things through. That is where their support networks come in to offer moral support, praise and encouragement to help them avoid temptations and keep them on the straight and narrow.

The best support a teenager trying to lose weight can get is from friends and family and if that's not possible then they can get it from others who have already been through it via various support networks or even on weight loss forums
